Thanks for stopping by…for those of you who do not know the story behind Bells Pistol Pete, please take a moment to read the special story about how he came to be part of Painted Hills Ranch. For those who do know his story, please join me in sharing this with others.
Bells Pistol Pete, most commonly known as “Pistol,” was loved and admired by his former owner, Don Simmons of
On September 28, 2007 the relationship took an unexpected turn when both Don and his wife, Mary, were killed at
With great thought and consideration, Pistol was sent to Kathy Key at Key Stallion Station where he stood for the 2008 breeding season. (Don had talked about doing this before his passing, so that he and his wife could get away from the ranch once in a while to enjoy fishing and etc.) Since both of the Simmons’ daughters lived out of state, Pistol needed a place to go for the interim so that he would not be left standing alone at the ranch….without his much respected friend, Don.
Pistol was being offered for sale and In October of 2008 I learned there had been an offer made and that he could possibly leave the country. I could not let this happen and watch Don’s dreams for Pistol vanish. The very next day I contacted Don’s daughter, Donna, and told her I wanted to purchase him and bring him home!
November 1, 2008, Pistol came to Painted Hills Ranch! It was literally a whirlwind decision and many changes had to be made to accommodate this awesome stallion. Pistol is now back in the local area of
As many people know, Don was a very special man that several of us grew to love, respect and admire. His kind heart and immense horsemanship knowledge continues to be greatly missed by all. Please join me in working together to carry forward Don’s legacy with Pistol.
I am offering a kind, loving home for Pistol, a sound breeding program and a welcoming atmosphere for you and your mares. Please feel free to contact me so we can discuss how I might assist you with your upcoming breeding season. If you are not interested in breeding, you may want to consider a Pistol foal already on the ground! Feel free to browse the site and get to know us better.
In closing, I would like to thank Donna, Don’s daughter, for selling Pistol and allowing him to be part of Painted Hills Ranch where he is loved, admired and respected daily! I am truly grateful for the opportunity to carry forward her father’s legacy!
